Abby Normal?

Alright, I suppose for my first 'ranting' or musing on things should be based on the general distaste that most of my subculture has for a certain raven-haired persona. Yes, I know it's frowned upon to consider yourself 'goth', but if the Victorian-era corset, floor length gown and heels fit...

Abby Sciuto, from what most of the people I speak to say, is a negative influence or representation of the Gothic subculture from the show NCIS. The main reasons for her having been a negative influence is due to her...

  • actress not being Goth in real life.
  • perky and friendly demeanor.
  • stereotypical persona.
  • screen writers playing off what is 'popular' or will attract higher ratings
Honestly, I cannot see this character as negative in ANY way to the goth subculture. Yes, she might have only existed to bring higher ratings and might be classified as stereotyping, but is that really bad? She's funny, bright, sweet and an animal lover. She's got wit and looks, and everyone seems to like her. The actress herself may not be Goth, but the character is nothing short of a wonderful reflection of the Goth subculture. I would think that anything giving our little group a positive reputation would be warmly received, stereotyped or no.

Either way, that's a little light reading and ranting for now. Would love to hear your opinions as well, always up for a debate or discussion.
